Our produce is USDA Certified Organic and Real Organic Certified, all grown with no-till farming methods.
We are raising nutritious food from the ground up with deep appreciation for the complex system of life within the soil and all around us. We believe the health of the plants is intrinsically linked to the balance of nutrients and diversity in the web of life in the soil. By caring for the soil, we have seen an abundance of life return to this land, from earthworms and fungal networks underground to a dramatic increase in amphibians and birds.
By keeping the soil covered and roots in tact, we are providing food for soil life while sequestering carbon in the soil. More conventional farming practices, such as tillage, severely disrupt the fungal and microbial life in the soil and also release large amounts of carbon, in the form of CO2, into the atmosphere.
We are working with the understanding that plants with optimum nutrition and a healthy microbiome are resistant to pests and disease. We'd much rather maintain healthy soil and offer the plants probiotics and necessary micronutrients than spray for a pest or disease outbreak. If pest control is warranted based on our observation and experience, only naturally-derived, Certified Organic controls are used.
This work is done with dedication by the farmers and a very special group of people who have worked with us as apprentices over the years, sharing the values of meaningful work, connection to land, and providing an essential resource (good food!) to our community. The farm is sustained by the support of our wonderful customers who join our CSA, visit us at the Charlotte Regional Farmers' Market, or pick up orders at the farm.
